Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a mobile multiplayer online battle arena developed and published by Moonton. Released in 2016, the game has become popular in Southeast Asia and was among the games chosen for the first medal event esports competition at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines.

The MPL Philippines Season 7 will welcome two new teams from the Qualifiers, according to the rules and regulations recently released by Moonton’s tournament organizers for the local professional Mobile Legends league.

As previously announced, aspiring teams may register from Jan. 11 to 19 while the qualifying tourney will commence on Jan. 22.

Registered teams will battle it out in a do-or-die match in the group qualifier before the round of 16 (semifinals of each group).

Starting at the round of 16, teams will duke it out in best-of-three series, with the top eight squads advancing to the main qualifier.

Unlike in the past seasons where the main qualifier was divided into two four-team double-elimination groups, this season will feature an eight-team double-elimination format which perhaps is the biggest change to the rules and is expected to produce the two most qualified teams.

In Season 6, Cignal Ultra narrowly defeated former MPL member ArkAngel Esports, 2-1, in Group A while AkosiDogie’s Nexplay Solid demolished Team Chik, 2-0, to enter the regular season.

e two teams that will emerge victorious in the Season 7 Qualifiers will join the eight invited teams from Season 6.

Logically speaking, the top eight from last season will be invited namely Bren Esports (champion), Smart Omega (runner-up), Execration (third), Onic PH (fourth) and playoff finishers Aura PH, Blacklist International, Cignal and NXP. dr

Bottom finishers BNK Blufire and BSB will most likely be given the boot to give way for the winners of the qualifiers.

As stated in the rules, “if some of the invited teams lose their direct invite eligibility, a corresponding number of teams will be promoted from the qualifier to the regular season based on their qualifier rankings.”

The all-out war for the last two spots in the MPL Philippines Season 7 looms as former champions Aether Main of Akosi Dogie and ArkAngel along with six other teams see action in the Main Qualifiers set this coming weekend, Jan. 30-31.

The eight teams survived the grueling Group Qualifiers that featured an unprecedented 3,040 squads across the country–a figure that easily smashed the over 1,000 teams that registered for the qualifiers in Season 6.

Inaugural MPL champion Aether Main is primed for a comeback in Moonton’s premier professional league with founding members Akosi Dogie and Yuji “Yuji” Aizawa leading the stack that also has former Execration sidelaner Jeff “S4gitnu” Subang.

They will go up against ULVL, a former MPL member as well, in the first round of the double-elimination qualifiers.

Season 3 winner ArkAngel also seeks to take a flight back to the MPL as it aims for a strong takeoff against Reech Apex in the opening round.

The Nationals member Laus Auto Group Playbook Esports, under the watch of ArkAngel’s champion coach Brian “Panda” Lim, will square off against World Challenger to open its campaign.

Empire Monarch, which eliminated Team Payaman featuring Reiniel “HONDA BEAST” Encisa and other ex-Blacklist International players, will start its qualifying bid versus GREY led by a top global player.

The two qualifying winners will join newly-crowned M2 world champion and reigning MPL king Bren Esports, Smart Omega, Execration, Onic PH, Aura PH, Blacklist International, Nexplay Solid and Cignal Ultra in the Season 7 main tournament.

The qualified teams will get the spots left by Season 6 bottom finishers BNK Blu Fire and BSB.
